COSIMO MARIA MASINI - Biodynamic passion

Our focus on the winemakers we cooperate begins with the company Cosimo Maria Masini, the first from which we bought wines and the closest to our home. A young company, but already vaunting of products to envy the most experienced biodynamic producers and not !!!
The farm is on the hills of San Minato, an ancient medieval village in the heart of Tuscany, a land of Wines and White Truffle (the precious tuber magnatum).
The estate, owned by the Masini family since 2000, extends over a single hilltop, 40 hectares of vineyards, olive groves and arable land.
The wine cellar where the winemaking takes place is the same made from the Marchese Cosimo Ridolfi when he began the activity in the mid-eighteenth century.
The vineyards, located at about 100 meters above the sea, extend for about 13 hectares on clayey soil of Pliocene origin, rich in fossils with microclimatic conditions ideal for the vine.
The cultivated varieties are those of the Tuscan wine tradition: Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Trebbiano, White and Black Malvasia, Buonamico, San Colombano and an almost disappeared native, Sanforte, whose genetic heritage is recovering. The latest plants also include international vines: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
Since the acquisition of the property, the vineyards have been cultivated biologically and, after a few years, have passed to Biodynamics, which represents a step further than organic farming, not only does it exclude the use of synthetic fertilizers but even trying to regenerate the soil, increasing fertility and humus, so that the plants find a living environment in which to grow. By following this method, it was possible to get more balanced grapes, and without synthesis chemicals, and prompted the company to look for a winemaking method that preserves, faithful and intact the characteristics.
The grapes are hand-picked in small boxes to prevent them from being damaged during transport. Once arrived in the cellar they are worked and from this moment every tanks follows its course, without constraints of predefined protocols, without the addition of selected yeasts or chemical enzymes.
Thanks to all this, they have been able to give wine consumers who are genuine ambassadors of the territory, born of a purely natural process.
The watchward of the company Cosimo Maria Masini can be summed up in a few words: work daily in vineyards in contact with plants, observe, interpret and respect nature,
confronting it with humility. All the rest will take away by the immense quality of the products of this tuscan biodynamic reality !!!
