by Charles Degand
Searching of the most innovative translation of Jura wines, we came across the new versions of Charles Dagand.
Charles was originally involved with Octavin's Alice Bouvot, but after several considerations he chooses his way and creates his Domaine Carlito.
Exciting wines that strike at breathtaking, with a delicate sensuality next to something that is simply inexplicable. Free wines, sincere and with exceptional vitality, demonstrating that Charles is very good both in the care of the vines and in the production of wine.
Yavol 2017 - € 44.90; here is the Yavol, a blend of all the authorized Jura vines, Chardonnay, Savagnin, Pinot Noir, Trousseau and Ploussard collected from a very old parcel of vines (70 years!) in which the varieties are co-planted (this old vineyard has vines planted randomly) which means that there may be Pinot Noir vines planted next to a Savagnin vine. The result is a delicious wine that has an interesting texture derived from the combination of red and white grapes and a complex and compelling flavor obtained by the interaction of the different grape varieties. And, with only 11% alcohol, it can be enjoyed at any time of the day, including breakfast! A fascinating and revisited trip to the Jura!!!
Charpindo 2017 - € 44.90; delicious white wine obtained from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from vineyards near the village of Abergement-le-Grand which is located a few kilometers west of the main city of Arbois. Pinot Noir (one third of the mixture) is quickly squeezed to avoid the release of color from the skins in order to obtain a white wine and Chardonnay is squeezed separately. The fermentation for this wine was very slow due to Charles' very cold cellar, in fact it lasted all winter! After the two wines fermented separately, they were mixed and aged until bottling. Thus a vibrant wine is born, full of vitality and uncontrollable drinking! Another exciting reinterpretation of the Jura!!!
